Jacksonville Jaguars

Nobody expected the Jacksonville Jaguars to be contenders, but they were a team with young talent and a new head coach that seemed to be trending in the right direction.

Well, the Jaguars are somehow worse than they were last season. Last season, the Jaguars opened the season with a 1-3 record. This season, they are off to a 0-4 start.

Each of those four losses felt like a separate disaster. In Week 1, they were easily outplayed by the Houston Texans. The Texans’ offense scored 37 points against the Jaguars’ defense. In their following three games, the Texans’ offense scored only a total of 30 points.

In Week 3, the Jaguars actually had a 19-10 lead in the third quarter against the Arizona Cardinals. They lost that lead after Trevor Lawrence threw a pick-six on a horrible flea-flicker play call.

In Week 4, they blew a 21-14 lead in the fourth quarter against the Cincinnati Bengals.

It’s easy to blame Lawrence, who has thrown seven interceptions in four games, but if the Jaguars were coached better, there is a chance that they would have a 2-2 record.

Urban Meyer’s coaching decisions have been baffling. Last season, rookie running back James Robinson was one of the lone bright spots for the team, as he rushed for over 1,000 yards. In Week 1, Meyer minimized Robinson’s role against the Texans, as he only had five carries. Meanwhile, former Buckeye Carlos Hyde led the team with nine rushing attempts.

Finally, Meyer gave Robinson 18 carries in Week 4. Robinson scored two touchdowns, and the Jaguars’ offense looked significantly stronger. It’s bizarre that he would wait three weeks to properly utilize his most dynamic offensive weapon.

Meyer has even become a distraction off the field.

With matchups against the Titans, Bills, and Seahawks in the four weeks, things are not looking promising for Jacksonville.
