There’s no reasonable excuse as to why the Pittsburgh Steelers still have veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger listed as the starter. After the Steelers somehow managed to win against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1, they have lost three-straight games. If Roethlisberger isn’t replaced, that skid is going to continue.

In Week 4, Pittsburgh lost 27-17 to the Green Bay Packers. Ben went 26-of-40 for 232 yards, one touchdown and one interception. After opening the game with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Diontae Johnson, Roethlisberger continually missed open receivers.

Ben has thrown four touchdowns and four interceptions so far this season. His rating hasn’t exceeded 87.0 and it definitely isn’t going to get better than that. The Steelers’ offensive line is awful, but it’s clear that Roethlisberger should no longer be Pittsburgh’s leader.

The Steelers won the AFC North last year, but those days are far behind them if things continue to derail at this pace. Backup quarterback Mason Rudolph isn’t a promising answer given his performance during the 2019-20 season, but perhaps third-string quarterback Dwayne Haskins is. Pittsburgh should try to give Aaron Rodgers a call, too. Anything’s better than Ben at this point.
