5 breakout fantasy football stars to pick up for Week 5
1. Top fantasy football pickups for Week 5 – Bears RB Damien Williams
There hasn’t been a lot of opportunity to improve at running back on the waiver wire this year but an injury to David Montgomery may have opened up a starting role in Chicago. Montgomery was dominating the backfield work for Chicago today, rushing 23 times for 106 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game with a potentially serious knee injury.
There isn’t any word yet on the severity of the injury but the fact that Montgomery was quickly ruled out after leaving the field isn’t a good sign. If Montgomery does end up missing significant time, Damien Williams will step into the starting role and should be a priority pickup in all leagues.
Williams finished the game for the Bears and racked up 55 yards on eight carries while hitting paydirt as well. Chicago also uses Williams in the passing game as he caught two passes for 15 yards and Williams could be in line for monster usage if Montgomery is out for the long haul.
There is also a solid track record for Williams as a feature back during his time as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. Rostered in just seven percent of Yahoo leagues, Williams is the unquestioned top pickup of the week if Montgomery is set to miss significant time.
