4. Seattle Seahawks

Despite their comeback performance in Week 4, the Seahawks still have too many defensive issues to remain in playoff consideration at this point in the season.

But if the Seahawks bring in Jaylon Smith, it could drastically change the trajectory of their season.

Like the Cowboys, the Seahawks play a 4-3 defense, but that middle linebacker is firmly held by future Hall of Fame Bobby Wagner. Still, Smith could transition to fill in for Jordyn Brooks or Darrell Taylor, who is currently listed as “Questionable” on the depth chart.

The departure of longtime Seahawk K.J. Wright left its mark on the defense, and while young players like Brooks and Taylor are looking to fill the gap, a little star power at the position could give the defense the hold it needs.

A line replete with Carlos Dunlap, Bobby Wagner and Jaylon Smith would complete a linebacker trifecta in Seattle — all they need to do is find the money.

3. Chicago Bears

The Bears’ 3-4 defense provides a little more room for a MLB like Smith, with Roquan Smith and Alec Ogletree lining up in the interior.

Smith has delivered as a 2018 eighth-overall pick, making second-team All-Pro in 2020. However, Ogletree was brought in to replace Danny Trevathan, although Ogletree led the team in tackles last week against the Lions. His solid performance makes “a strong case to be their permanent starter,” according to Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times.

That being said, Jaylon Smith’s career has been so decorated that he could come in and get reps, allowing a little friendly competition for the starting spot with Ogletree. Having Roquan Smith, Khalil Mack and Jaylon Smith would create a Bears defense no NFL team could break through.
