Phil Nevin, 3B coach

If Boone is not brought back by the team, then it is without a doubt that his coaching staff won’t return either. But when it comes to third base coach Phil Nevin, he did not do himself any favors in the AL Wild Card game.

In the sixth inning, the Yankees finally got on the board thanks to a solo home run by Anthony Rizzo. After Aaron Judge reached on a single, Giancarlo Stanton hit a long and high double off the Green Monster. The Yankees would have had two runners on base with one out. Instead, Nevin sent Judge to run home, but was thrown out by a mile thanks to a cutoff by shortstop Xander Bogaerts.

This has been a theme for the Yankees, who have been thrown out at home 22 times this season, which is tied for the most in MLB alongside the Kansas City Royals.

Not a great night for Nevin, that’s for sure.
