No. 2: Yankees third-base coach Phil Nevin made an error that proved pretty costly

In the top of the sixth inning, with one out, the New York Yankees had a runner on first and Giancarlo Stanton up to bat. The Boston Red Sox had a 3-1 lead and Stanton was looking to tie things up. But, just as he’d done in the first inning, Stanton bounced a single off the Green Monster.

Unfortunately for the Yankees, that baserunner happened to be Aaron Judge. By no means is Judge a bad player, he’s actually incredibly talented! But Judge isn’t exactly the fastest guy on the field.

And that fact came back to haunt the Yankees as Nevin told Judge to head on home.

Testing the Red Sox ability to complete a relay here ended up getting Judge tagged out at home and took away a chance for the Yankees to cut into Boston’s lead. As you can see, Judge had no shot at scoring here.

The Yankees could have had two men on base with just one out. But instead, Boston was able to prevent further damage from being done. Nevin’s choice to send Judge home cost New York here.
