Tennessee Titans

The Titans may head to the playoffs after all, but it won’t be pretty. As it stands, the 2-2 team is leading the AFC South ahead of the Texans, Colts and Jaguars. For reference, the Seahawks and 49ers are tied at the bottom of the NFC West with 2-2 records.

While the Titans have a lead in winning a playoff spot, they’ll need much more than that to stand a chance in the postseason. Injuries have plagued the depth chart, with seven different defensive players currently sidelined on IR.

Seven more are listed as “Questionable”, including three of the Titans’ four starting linebackers.

The Titans are probably the team that needed Jaylon Smith more than anyone, even just for the sake of depth at the position. And with the most precarious chances this season, they had the most to lose by missing out on the chance to sign him.

Whatever is said of Smith, he is more than talented enough to start for an NFL team as a middle linebacker, especially when so many teams seem thin at the position. The Cowboys are fortunate with their abundance of linebackers, as most of the NFL has the opposite problem.

The Titans ranked in the bottom five defenses, and that was before the NFL season even began.

The Titans are allowing the third-most first downs and the seventh-most points per game with 27.8. While their offseason moves must have paid off more than the Chiefs, who rank ahead of them in both of these categories, the Titans have little hope with Jaylon Smith whisked away to the Packers.
