College football upset pick No. 1: Ohio State Buckeyes

Rank: 7 | Opponent: Maryland Terrapins | Time: Saturday, Oct. 9, Noon ET

Somehow, the general feeling is that all of the woes about Ohio State that were present early in the year have gone away over the past two weeks. After all, nothing to prove yourself like beating up on Akron — one of the worst teams in college football — and running the score up on Rutgers and a highly suspect Scarlet Knights offense.

The fact of the matter is we still have no idea if the Buckeyes defense is capable of holding up against a good and explosive offense. And though the turnover-fest against Iowa last week might not be indicative of that, Maryland has shown enough to deserve the respect that they can bounce back, especially when they go from playing a defense that is one of the best in the country to playing Ohio State’s defense.

One of the big factors in the Terps getting mowed over by Iowa was the fact that they couldn’t run the ball. It’s been a huge part of their success but they were forced to rely on Taulia Tagovailoa almost solely, which led to the five-interception game from him. Against the Buckeyes, though, there is a much better chance to get that rushing attack going, which then puts Tagovailoa in advantageous positions.

Maryland probably doesn’t have any answers for Ohio State’s offense and this could be a shootout. But as I always say, the thing about shootouts is that anything can happen. And Maryland has enough in their offensive arsenal to make the plays against this still questionable Buckeyes defense to shock Columbus for the second time this season.
