Padres: Could Ron Washington be the answer?

The Padres came close to hiring Washington in 2019, as he made the final two with Tingler. However, Preller opted to go in a different direction.

Assuming they do fire Tingler, expect the Padres to go for the experienced baseball mind this time around. Showalter reflects that approach, and so would Braves third base coach Washington.

The former Rangers manager has had plenty of success at the major-league level, despite a tough exit in Texas. Washington stepped down in 2014 from the Rangers to deal with some personal matters. Those personal matters, it was later revealed, had to do with Washington cheating on his wife of then-42 years.

With that well in the past, Washington is fully dedicated to baseball once again, and ready to lead a talented team like the Padres. He’s been a stable force in the Braves locker room, and surely has a positive reference from Brian Snitker whenever he needs it.
