Padre: Bruce Bochy is the obvious hire, if they want him

Bruce Bochy managed the Padres from 1995-2006, so he’s familiar with the area and how to run things in that market. His tenure with the San Francisco Giants, however, is what makes him the top name on the free agent manager market.

Bochy won three World Series with the Giants. If the Padres make the right offer — and it’ll have to be lucrative — they can help make that dream a reality.

Our own Robert Murray linked Bochy to the Padres in a recent column, and the hire makes the most sense given the past history and cache Bochy could bring to San Diego almost immediately.

"“The Padres entered the season as a World Series or bust. Instead, they are on the verge of missing the playoffs, and significant changes are likely soon on the way. They appear primed to part ways with manager Jayce Tingler, with three-time World Series winning manager Bruce Bochy drawing buzz in league circles as a potential replacement, and he would offer something Tingler and the other first-time managers that general manager A.J. Preller has hired have not: credibility.”"

It’s exactly what the Padres have been missing. Bochy brings accountability and brilliant in-game management.
