Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings after Week 6: No. 12-11

12. Coastal Carolina Chanticleers

Have a day, Isaiah Likely. The Coastal Carolina tight end connected with Grayson McCall for all four touchdown passes the Chanticleers threw on the day while also accounting for 232 yards of the 365 that the signal-caller amassed on the day. After a game like that, it’s not shocking that Coastal moved to 6-0 on the season with a dominant 52-20 victory over Arkansas State on Thursday night.

Outside of a close one against Buffalo — which is looking more like an anomaly with each passing week — the Chants have continued to be one of the best Group of 5 teams in the country. They are winning and doing so with authority. How they fare against a dangerous Appalachian State team in two weeks, though, could tell us quite a lot about just what the ceiling of Coastal Carolina is.

11. Oklahoma State Cowboys

Coming off two big wins in the Big 12 as they beat Kansas State and then largely dominated Baylor last week in a matchup of unbeaten teams, Oklahoma State likely deserved the week off — especially with a trip to Austin to face a surely fired-up Texas team next week — to rest up a bit. But this team keeps winning games despite not always looking overly impressive on the field.

Spencer Sanders and the offense still have plenty of problems but, as their wide receiver corps begins to get healthier, we’re starting to see a bit more juice from them. More importantly, the Cowboys defense is making plays time and again to limit how much the offense actually has to do. Even if it’s not as entertaining, that’s a quality formula in the Big 12 this season.
