10 RB sleepers to target for fantasy football Week 5
By Nick Villano
3. J.D. McKissic, Washington Football Team
Antonio Gibson is still the guy for the Washington Football Team, but J.D. McKissic has shown value last week. He caught the game-winning touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons. Taylor Heineke has been struggling as the starter, but it seems like things are starting to click. That’s huge for Washington, and it’s even better for the team’s running game.
Washington is facing a Saints team that is motivated to show that last week was a fluke. They lost to the New York Giants, and Saquon Barkley looked like he couldn’t be stopped. Barkley had 5 receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown. McKissic is the player who is going to get those passing downs, so he should be the one getting the receiving stats. Can lightning strike twice against the Saints’ defense?
2. Damien Williams, Chicago Bears
This is the one most fantasy owners are paying close attention to. David Montgomery had a monster week last week, but he paid for it. Now, he’s on the shelf for the foreseeable future, and Damien Williams is the guy behind Justin Fields. Can he mimic the kind of production Montgomery was putting up before he got hurt?
Las Vegas has been giving up around a touchdown and a half on the ground each week. They are coming off their first loss, and they have a short week after playing on Monday Night Football. Williams is going to get the ball early and often. This should be a huge output for both fantasy and on the scoreboard.
1. Cordarrelle Patterson, Atlanta Falcons
Cordarrelle Patterson was the highest-scoring running back in all formats last week. The Falcons have to play in London, but they also get to do it against the New York Jets. This is a matchup that should lead to a lot of points for Patterson and Mike Davis for that matter.
Patterson is still not trusted amongst the fantasy experts. ESPN ranks him 20th in their running back rankings. None of their experts rank him above 18th. Patterson is unconventional, and fantasy experts will have trouble trusting him. They’ve been burned by players like this before, but this is a matchup with the Jets. Arthur Smith’s offense will continue to grow, and it will on the back of Patterson.
