The Saints grabbed a halftime lead against the Washington Football Team thanks to a Hail Mary touchdown to close out the second quarter.

How in the world did the Washington Football Team allow this to happen? In the Week 5 matchup going up against Jameis Winston and the New Orleans Saints, it looked like the two teams were going to be tied at 13-13 at halftime.

Instead, the Saints grabbed a 20-13 lead on the final play of the second quarter. Jameis Winston tossed up a Hail Mary and stud wideout Marquez Callaway went up and grabbed it. The defense showcased in the clip below was nothing short of abysmal. What was Washington doing?

Washington basically gifted New Orleans a touchdown before halftime

Ron Rivera must be furious right now. As you can see in the video above, the Washington defensive backs are chasing after the Saints receivers and they’re in no position to try and make something happen.

Instead, the Saints players are basically given a ton of free space in the end zone. Callaway, who is an outstanding athlete, leaped into the air and was able to come down with the bomb from Winston. Callaway was probably a bit surprised to be so open.

This execution from Washington is absolutely inexcusable. You simply can’t allow this to happen when you’re in a back-and-forth affair with the Saints. This play alone could prove to cost Washington a home win here. Fans are furious right now and it’s totally understandable.
