1. Carlos Rodon

The starting pitcher for the White Sox in the pivotal Game 4 against the Astros, Carlos Rodon didn’t do much to alleviate any of the looming concerns about his long-term viability in Chicago. He went just 2.2 innings while giving up two earned runs and throwing 56 pitches in the abbreviated outing.

While Rodon started the 2021 season in All-Star form, the old injury bug that has plagued him throughout his career since he was the third-overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft bit him again. He returned to have some nice outings but was also not nearly the overtly dominant force on the mound that he was at the start of the year.

Because of his bouts with injuries on top of his erratic performance prior to the start of this season, there was speculation that he wouldn’t be back after last season but Chicago brought Rodon back into the rotation on a one-year deal. And now there’s little chance the organization will look to bring him back.

Exacerbating that fact is the price tag Rodon could command. Though he’s just 28 years old, he’s unlikely to get a massive long-term contract. With that said, the peaks in performance he showed this season could earn him a hefty short-term deal that the White Sox want no part of.
