5 coaches Trevor Lawrence should want to replace Urban Meyer
1. Brian Daboll, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator
The 4-1 Bills look like the best team in the NFL right now, as Josh Allen moves himself into the MVP conversation. Daboll’s work with Allen from the beginning in 2018, taking him from a raw prospect with a strong (but scattershot) arm to now an MVP candidate in a second straight season, keeps him prominent in talk of head coaching candidates. It’s just a matter of the right opportunity being out there, and that could come after Buffalo’s season is over.
Daboll had a long resume as an NFL assistant before landing in Buffalo, including stints as the offensive coordinator with the Cleveland Browns (2009-10), Miami Dolphins (2011) and Kansas City Chiefs (2012). He also spent a season in the college game, as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Nick Saban at Alabama in 2017.
The No. 1 priority in Jacksonville is the development of Lawrence into a franchise quarterback. Daboll’s work with Allen speaks for itself in that regard. The team might very well already have an eye on him as a candidate to replace Meyer, on the idea a parting of ways is coming one way or another. Lawrence should be fully on board with the idea of Daboll as the next Jaguars’ head coach, and he’ll get a look at the Bills’ offense from the opposite sideline in Week 9.
