Miami Heat: Can Kyle Lowry play like a star?

The Heat organization has a long history of taking in veterans and helping them extend their careers by tacking on a few high-level seasons onto the end of their careers. That’s just what Miami hopes to do with Kyle Lowry.

Lowry should slot in right away as the team’s new starting point guard. If Lowry can play at an All-Star level, then life becomes much easier for Duncan Robinson and Jimmy Butler on the offensive end of the floor. Improving the half-court offense should be a top priority for Erik Spoelstra and his staff this year.

Lowry’s aggressive ball-hawking defense could also help strengthen Miami’s efforts on the other end of the floor. He’s got the size and quickness to guard point guards and some shooting guards in certain matchups. That versatility is key when playing alongside Robinson in the backcourt.

The Heat should be careful not to overplay Lowry in the regular season, but his ability to play like a high-level starter is crucial to the team’s hopes of securing home-court advantage in the playoffs.
