Sacramento Kings: Can Marvin Bagley or Buddy Hield be saved?

The Kings’ roster has some nice pieces, but overall their flexibility is being weighed down by two big question marks. Marvin Bagley looks like a lottery flop and Buddy Hield’s contract looks like one of the worst multiyear agreements in the NBA.

The chances of Sacramento salvaging Bagley’s career look remote at the moment. He’s not skilled enough to play as a power forward and he’s too small to hold up at center. His next contract looks destined to be a league minimum.

There’s a little more hope when it comes to Hield. If his shooting touch returns then he should at least be a quality rotation piece for the Kings. That’s a big if, but there’s at least a chance that last year’s struggles turn out to be an outlier for the former Oklahoma star.

If either of these players can turn into an above-average bench piece then the Kings should consider it a success. Neither is going to help elevate this roster to anything more than a fringe playoff contender this season, but Sacramento needs to see their overall roster value increase.
