Dallas Mavericks: Can Kristaps Porzingis fulfill his potential?

Luka Doncic has been nothing short of incredible for the Mavericks during his relatively brief NBA career. What’s let Dallas down is the idea that Porzingis was going to ascend to the status of second star to accompany the dynamic playmaker.

Instead, Porzingis has struggled mightily to play like a quality starter. Availability has been another issue for the skilled big man. The combination of the two has made Porzingis’ contract one of the worst deals in the NBA since Dallas acquired it.

Mavericks fans hope and pray this is the year where Porzingis can stay healthy and turn into the uber-valuable stretch center he has the potential to become. Whether or not that’s more of a wish than a plan remains to be seen.

What is certain is that Doncic needs more help if he’s going to make the Mavericks a legitimate title contender. If anyone other than Porzingis is this team’s second-best player during the 2021-22 season then Dallas will fall well short of their full potential.
