Houston Rockets: Is anyone other than Jalen Green a keeper?

Green’s draft status makes him an obvious player for Houston to keep around for several more seasons. That’s not a description that fits many other players on the Rockets’ roster.

Christian Wood is arguably the team’s best player, but his age and contract might make him a valuable trade piece rather than a long-term member of Houston’s core. Eric Gordon and Daniel Theis are two other veterans who could easily be moved if a quality offer comes along during the season.

Curiously, Kevin Porter Jr. might be the second most likely player on the roster to figure into Houston’s long-term plans. He’s suffered more than his share of off-the-court issues, but he was good for the Rockets on the floor last year. At worst, he profiles as an above-average bench player moving forward.

This is a season for patience for everyone associated with the Rockets. This team isn’t ready to contend and it’s not trying to do so either. It’s a development year for everyone in Houston even if Green is the only keeper on the current roster.
