Chicago Bulls: Will going all-in around Zach LaVine work?

The Bulls front office has done a lot of heavy lifting over the last 12 months designed to build a title contender around Zach LaVine. The problem or Chicago is that they’ve expended almost all of their positive resources and still might not have anything more than a marginal playoff team to show for it.

Spending big on Lonzo Ball looks like a good bet in a vacuum, but his lack of consistent shooting ability makes his fit with LaVine in a backcourt questionable. Throw in the acquisition of DeMar DeRozan to play the small forward spot and it’s clear Chicago’s starting five is really low on perimeter shooting ability.

The frontcourt has question marks too. Patrick Williams is a tantalizing athletic talent, but he may not be ready for serious starter minutes at such a young age. Nikola Vucevic was supposed to power Chicago to the playoffs last year but was a massive disappointment. There’s no guarantee that the Bulls have anything more than a mediocre frontcourt rotation to go with their awkward backcourt depth chart.

If all of this doesn’t work then LaVine’s contract status could quickly turn into a big problem for the Bulls’ front office. It’s a ticking time bomb for fans in Chicago if they don’t get off to a hot start.
