The Patriots run game will slow down

All other offensive struggles aside, the Patriots ran the ball well against Houston. They accumulated 116 yards on the ground, and they did it while averaging over six yards per carry. Damien Harris had 58 yards and a touchdown and Brandon Bolden had a 24-yard run, as well. The Patriots continue to be a running back by committee, but it worked against Houston.

New England also hasn’t been shy about using their other skill position players in the run game. Kendrick Bourne had a 12-yard run, and tight end Jonnu Smith was used to run the ball as well, each on gimmick plays.

The Cowboys defense is really good against the run. They are allowing the fifth-fewest rushing yards per game and are really starting to gel as a unit. Rookie linebacker Micah Parsons has been making plays in the run game, as has Leighton Vander Esch.

While New England had a good day on the ground against the Texans, they are still one of the worst run teams in football. At 80 rushing yards per game, their run game ranks 27th in the NFL. If they get down early, the run game will be a non-factor, and all the pressure will be put on Mac Jones.
