The Cowboys secondary will shine

Of all the surprises of the year, the outstanding play of Trevon Diggs is among the biggest. That’s not to say Diggs wasn’t good, but no one could have predicted the tear he’s been on. He has six interceptions through five games. If there was a year that Dick Lane’s record of 14 interceptions in a season were to be broken, it could be this one.

In large part because of Diggs’ outstanding play, the Cowboys lead the NFL in interceptions with 10. The last thing a team with a rookie quarterback wants to face is a secondary that is humming. As referenced earlier, the Patriots don’t have a consistent run game that they can turn to in order to take the load off Jones.

The rookie out of Alabama has been accurate, but has also made some bad decisions. He threw three interceptions against New Orleans, and an ugly one last week against Houston. The Patriots can overcome those mistakes against bad teams, but Dallas will make them pay if they turn the ball over. Expect a big day from the Dallas defense, and a seventh interception for Diggs as he continues on this historic pace.
