Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings after Week 7: No. 8-7

8. Iowa Hawkeyes

A week after a big win over Penn State and moving up to second in the rankings, Iowa State came out with an absolute thud. The Hawkeyes only mustered seven points against Purdue in a 24-7 loss. The nature of the loss probably pushes them further down the rankings than they’re hoping to.

At this point can anyone comfortably say the Hawkeyes are better than Ohio State and Michigan? It’s tough to say. In fairness to the Hawkeyes, they’ll probably meet one of them if not Penn State again in the Big Ten title game.

7. Michigan Wolverines

The story for the Wolverines is the same story for the other Big Ten East heavyweights. Their road to success is in their contests against the Buckeyes, Penn State, and Michigan State. Right now, the Wolverines haven’t had a major test.

The good news is that test is coming for Jim Harbaugh’s program. We’ll know right away which type of season it’s going to be for the Wolverines as they get Michigan State in a couple of weeks. If they survive that, the Nittany Lions and Buckeyes loom.
