5 potential transfer destinations for Florida quarterback Emory Jones
By John Buhler
Florida State was keen on Jones out of high school, but would Florida block this?
If Florida was not such a big rival of Florida State, this would be the most obvious landing spot for Jones. Head coach Mike Norvell has turned over his roster a ton in year two on the job, so he would certainly welcome a high-profile transfer in-state to his program. Though the day and age of blocking a player from transferring to a school is a thing of the past, this is still Florida State.
Steve Spurrier left Gainesville and achieved great things at South Carolina
If Columbia, South Carolina was good enough for Steve Spurrier, it should be good enough for Jones. This is the best spot for Jones if he wanted to stay in the SEC. The Gamecocks have an emerging head coach in Shane Beamer and not that stable of a situation at quarterback. While this is not Florida State, Florida does play the Gamecocks annually, and that is a big factor to consider.
It is not like Miami is afraid to bring a transfer quarterback anyway
Even though they are historical rivals, Florida does not play Miami every year. Assuming D’Eriq King does not play college football for a seventh season, this is the best landing spot for Jones. He can go in and compete for an ACC Coastal division crown and potentially thrive in Rhett Lashlee’s offense. Though Manny Diaz could be feeling the heat, Jones could end up being all about The U.
While there are plenty of spots that Jones could transfer to, most of them do have Florida ties.
