3 Browns players who need to get healthy for team to recover
1. Literally any or all of the Browns offensive tackles
Coming into the season with the offensive line as one of the strengths in Cleveland, the tackle spots were something they could feel wholly confident in. Jedrick Wills Jr. was a stud as a rookie and Jack Conklin manned the right size like a Pro-Bowl caliber player. And to make things better, Chris Hubbard has been one of the best swing tackles in the NFL for some time.
Yet, all three of those players were out in Week 6 against the Cardinals and it showed. The Browns were forced to start James Hudson and Blake Hance at the two tackle spots on Sunday and, when they already didn’t have Chubb in the running game, that’s a huge blow to how this offense likes to roll under Stefanski.
Put simply, these guys have to get healthy. If Cleveland is going to continue to start Baker Mayfield at quarterback with an injured shoulder, then the signal-caller can’t be also forced to deal with consistent pressure in his face. That’s a recipe for disaster.
When the Browns started to really turn things around, the offensive line was one of the cornerstones they built the team on. So if that unit doesn’t have 2-3 of its most valuable pieces on the field, that’s a massive problem that’s hard for them to contend with.
