3. College football conference rankings: Big 12

There are clearly two top conferences in the country but give the Big 12 credit. They have maintained their top-three status for a few weeks now. Oklahoma showed that the Caleb Williams era will work just fine now that Spencer Rattler was wished well in his future endeavors. Baylor had a huge win over BYU at home after losing its undefeated status the week before. Oklahoma State, meanwhile, kept its undefeated status against then-No. 25 Texas in Austin. That’s a team to watch for now. Iowa State can’t recover from the disappointment they suffered earlier in the season, but if they keep winning they could surprisingly get back to the Big 12 Championship Game with some luck.

2. College football conference rankings: SEC

Alabama bounced back in the biggest way possible by destroying Mississippi State. They are very much still in the College Football Playoff conversation despite losing to Texas A&M. Georgia faced another challenge with undefeated Kentucky, but they once again made it look easy. The Bulldogs have no other ranked team on the schedule, and they get a week off before facing rival Florida, so it looks really good for their aspirations to go undefeated. Speaking of the Gators, they lost again to fall completely out of the rankings. LSU now has Florida’s season officially a disaster, and then right after the game, the school announced it will move on from head coach Ed Orgeron. Ole Miss survived a garbage shower in Lane Kiffin’s return to Tennessee. They also won the game. Auburn’s upset of Arkansas showed the middle of the SEC is just like a lot of other conferences; incredibly flawed and can win or lose any week.

1. College football conference rankings: Big Ten

Right now, the Big Ten has zero teams in the College Football Playoff, but they have four teams in the top ten. Only the SEC has more than one, and it’s just Alabama and Georgia. Meanwhile, the Big Ten has Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State ready to steal one of those spots once the College Football Playoff committee meets on Nov. 4. Cincinnati might be ranked in the second spot in the country now, but we’ve seen how the committee treats teams outside the Power Five before. After Purdue’s huge upset over Iowa, they were ranked in the Top 25 for the first time since 2007. The run towards the Big Ten Championship will be the most fun race in college football. The conference will eventually feast on each other, but for now, the Big Ten holds onto the top spot in the rankings.
