The Dodgers had an early 2-0 lead, but it all fell apart in the top of the fourth inning thanks to some curious calls by home plate umpire Jerry Meals.

The Dodgers can’t complain, especially after the final strike called on Wilmer Flores of the San Francisco Giants helped put them in this position. However, Meals really did a number on Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler in the fourth inning, who was eventually removed one out short of a completed frame.

Buehler gave up four fourth inning runs, the last of which was a walk to left fielder Eddie Rosario. One of those runs scored on a Joc Pederson single. Pederson, however, should’ve struck out earlier in the at-bat on an 0-2 pitch. Instead, Meals called an inside fastball a ball, and Pederson extended the at-bat.

Dodgers get a taste of their own medicine

Considering the Flores check-swing call in Game 5 of the NLDS helped get the Dodgers here in the first place, fans don’t really have a place to complain.

Still, Meals is making the case for robot umpires for us. These errors are unaffordable in such large moments of the MLB postseason, and it sure seems like they could be avoided. If MLB has the technology, then what the hell are we waiting for?
