Yankees could’ve brought back Buck Showalter

Showalter managed the Yankees for four seasons, finishing with a 313-268 record. He won the AL Manager of the Year award in the strike-shortened season, and managed the AL All-Star Team in 1995. George Steinbrenner offered Showalter an extension the following season, but he declined, as he would’ve had to fire his hitting coach.

Much has changed since then, and Showalter has seen success in various locations including Baltimore. Showalter hasn’t managed since 2018, when he led the O’s to an abysmal 47-115 record. However, he did lead the Orioles to their last postseason appearance, and has the praise of now-Padres star Manny Machado.

Had Showalter not be hired by the Padres, he would’ve been an excellent fit back in New York. He’s the kind of no-nonsense manager that would blend well with a veteran core that needs some direction.
