College football upset pick Week 8, No. 4: Oklahoma State Cowboys

Rank: 8 | Opponent: at Iowa State Cyclones | Time: Saturday, Oct. 23, 3:30 p.m. ET

It’s not everyday that you see an undefeated top-10 team in college football on the season going on the road to face an unranked team that has looked pedestrian and they are 7-point underdogs in the game. But that is the exact scenario in play for Oklahoma State as they prepare to go face Iowa State.

Since losing twice in three weeks, Iowa State has gone to make a nice little run through the state of Kansas and bounce back to 4-2 on the season. However, those two games might be bolstering up the Cyclones a bit too much. They haven’t been perfect, even if it does appear that they have untapped upside.

That doesn’t mean that Oklahoma State isn’t in danger of getting upset, however. The Cowboys basically remind a lot of people of a Big 12 version of Iowa. Their offense is limited and has plenty of warts, particularly with Spencer Sanders at quarterback, but they’ve been propped up by their defense.

Frankly, this is probably going to be an extremely ugly game with not a lot of offense. With that said, I have more faith in someone like Breece Hall to make the necessary plays to win than in anyone on the Cowboys roster, which puts Iowa State in a nice spot at home to pull off an upset against the No. 8 team in the country.
