1. Frank Clark, EDGE

Frank Clark was supposed to be the player to take the Chiefs defense to the next level. That’s why they traded valuable capital to be able to acquire him and then gave him a truckload of money to secure him for the future. But if they could go back on that now, they would almost surely be interested in doing so.

Clark has been a ghost for the Kansas City defense this season. It was actually a shock to see that he registered a quarterback hit on the day against the Titans because fans probably thought he forgot where the opposing backfield was located at this point. That’s how ineffective he’s been this season and on Sunday.

With the way this offense is designed, Clark is supposed to be one of the centerpieces along with defensive tackle Chris Jones. But when the edge rusher doesn’t demand a ton of attention because, simply, he’s not worthy of it, that throws everything off and renders players like Jones and Jarran Reed far less effective than they could be.

Given how much money the Chiefs are paying Clark, it’s impossible to say what the next step with him is. But there has to be something done to demand a substantially more effective performance from him going forward. Anything else is both unacceptable and sure to keep Kansas City’s defense as one of the NFL’s worst.
