3. Draft defense first

This should go without saying, but Brett Veach absolutely can not trade away the Chiefs’ first-round pick this year. The Chiefs are starting to slip down the rankings, but their first-round pick is getting more and more valuable. Unless a team offers the defensive player of a lifetime, that pick should stay in Kansas City for drafting a great young defensive star.

As a matter of fact, the Chiefs should be looking to collect draft picks this offseason. Chris Jones’ trade can easily bring in some draft capital, and if the Chiefs can trick someone into trading for Frank Clark, they could likely get picks there as well.

In the draft, the Chiefs board should only have defensive players on it. Brandon Joseph, Kingsley Enagbare, Jaquan Brisker should all be on the list long before an offensive player is even thought of.

That does not mean the Chiefs should not consider any offensive moves this season.

4. Find another wide receiver

It goes without saying that the Chiefs need to extend Tyreek Hill this offseason.

However, Hill has been absent at times this season, with teams selling out down the field to cover him. The Chiefs could excel in this situation if they had a healthy wide receiver who could run routes and get open one-on-one in those ten yards.

Enter WR2.

The free agency class of 2022 is loaded with talent, and there is an abundance of options at wide receiver. JuJu Smith-Schuster, DJ Chark, Dede Westbrook, Courtland Sutton, Josh Reynolds, Mike Williams, Allen Robinson and others.

Then there is the draft, where wide receiving options are a bit thinner. Most of the talented receivers are going in the first round, and the Chiefs absolutely must spend their first on a defensive player. Drake London out of USC is a tempting option, slated for the second or third round, bringing size and contested-catch ability to the team.
