2021 NFL power rankings, Week 8: Titans impress, Ravens stunned
Joe Judge’s club was embarrassed at home last Sunday by the visiting Rams. Now the Giants took on the slumping Carolina Panthers at home. Big Blue spotted their guests a 3-0 first-quarter lead and pitched a shutout the rest of the way. \New York’s pass rush finished with six sacks and held Carolina to 173 total yards. Quarterback Daniel Jones threw for 203 yards and one score, Devontae Booker ran for a TD and Graham Gano kicked three field goals.
Slowly but surely, the Jaguars have looked like a better football team. The franchise ended a 20-game losing streak with a 23-20 win over the Dolphins in London England, in Week 6. Rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence had his problems early on with ball security and does have 11 of the team’s 12 turnovers. Running back James Robinson has shown that last season’s rookie showing was hardly a fluke, rushing for a club-high 460 yards and five scores.
Off a win over the Jets at London followed by some time off, the Falcons made their way to South Florida to take on the slumping Dolphins. And Arthur Smith’s team would even their record thanks to a second straight victory via Younghoe Koo’s 36-yard field goal on the final play of the game. Matt Ryan had both of his team’s turnovers. But he also threw touchdown passes to Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage and finished with 336 yards through the air.
The Birds had a few extra days to prepare for their trip to Las Vegas to face the Raiders. But that didn’t seem to matter as the Philadelphia defense had no answers all afternoon. The Eagles surrendered 442 total yards and the club would fall behind, 30-7, deep into the third quarter. Quarterback Jalen Hurts, who felt his share of heat all day buy the Raiders’ pass rush, led the team to 15 points in the fourth quarter. But it was too little and much too late.
