5 reasons Tottenham must sack Nuno Espirito Santo immediately
2. The Kane-Son partnership must be revived
Jose Mourinho’s time at Tottenham was a disaster on most fronts, but one positive that did emerge from his tenure was the elevation of a prolific goal-scoring partnership between Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son. That connection has all but evaporated under Nuno this season and the Spurs’ attack has gone limp as a result.
Much of the media attention has been aimed at Kane’s declining goal total, but Son has also struggled to find joy under Nuno this year. Tottenham simply don’t give him enough time on the ball to work his magic from the wing. In theory, he should benefit from Nuno’s counterattacking strategy, but Spurs are so bad at executing those tactics that Son rarely gets the opportunity to work against a defender one v one.
Kane still tries to do his bit by dropping deep to get on the ball from time to time, but Tottenham’s lack of possession in the final third stops him from getting the time required to get back into the box after he makes that move. That makes the England striker far too easy for average defenders to keep track of when Spurs have the ball.
Any manager worth his salt would prioritize getting Kane and Son going over almost everything else at the club. Nuno seems focused on anything other than getting the pair of world-class attackers going. That’s a great reason for Spurs to find a new manager.
