The Patriots will fall to 3-5

The Chargers are the better team. We’ve seen what Herbert and this offense have done this season. The Patriots don’t have the firepower to go blow-for-blow with Williams and Allen. Austin Ekeler will be a big factor out of the backfield, as well. Tight end Jared Cook has been the team’s safety valve this season and has made multiple big plays throughout the year.

The Chargers are bad at defending the run, and the Patriots will have a solid game on the ground. Eventually, though, they will need to be able to match the pace and keep up with the Chargers. Kendrick Bourne and Hunter Henry aren’t keeping up with Williams and Allen.

By all accounts, the Chargers should be able to bounce back from their bad Week 6 performance. As long as Herbert protects the ball and the Chargers get in a rhythm with their air attack, they will improve to 5-2.

The good news for the Patriots is that, even with a loss, they are still in the thick of the AFC Wildcard race. There are a lot of three and four win teams going into this week. The Patriots will be playing meaningful football until the final week of the season.
