Seattle Seahawks: Raiders’ QB Marcus Mariota

Marcus Mariota is one of the best backups right now in the NFL, and without an injury to Derek Carr, he’s not seeing the field as Carr is playing solid football. One of the most quarterback-needy teams in the NFL right now is Seattle, as they lost Russell Wilson to a finger injury.

Geno Smith has been filling in for Wilson, and it’s clear that the Seahawks are trying to get by with using him as little as possible. He’s thrown 32 times and 22 times in each of his two starts for Seattle, while they’ve run the ball 23 times and 28 times in those games, respectively.

The Seahawks have even reportedly reached out to free agent Cam Newton, so they’re obviously already looking for a new backup for Wilson. Mariota plays similarly to Newton in his dual-threat ability, so the interest wouldn’t be surprising.

The Seahawks desperately need to make a move for a quarterback in order to stay in contention while they wait for Wilson to return.
