Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina are spending Thanksgiving together
Wainwright and his family are heading to Puerto Rico to celebrate Thanksgiving with Molina and his family.
It’s just further proof of how close the two are.
It also explains how the pitcher and catcher have managed to serve as a battery 305 times since 2007 with such great results. They clearly like working together and being around each other. The partnership wouldn’t have worked for so long if they didn’t.
This season, Wainwright and Molina moved into fourth place all-time as battery-mates. They started for the first time 2007 and they’ve remained with the Cardinals as a pair ever since.
Their next start together will put them even with Red Faber and Ray Schalk of the White Sox. They’re 20 starts away from overtaking Mickey Lolich and Bill Freehan for the most battery starts ever.
They’ll have a chance to claim that record in 2022 if all goes to plan. Both players have signed a one-year extension with St. Louis and plan to give it at least one more go.
Wainwright may be 40 years old, but he’s coming off a 17-7 season with an ERA of 3.05 in 32 starts. The 39-year-old Molina was an All-Star in 2021. If they can remain healthy, expect more amazing moments from the two. They don’t seem to be slowing down in the slightest.
