10 RB sleepers to target for fantasy football Week 8
By Nick Villano
9. D’Ernest Johnson, Cleveland Browns
Yes, Nick Chubb is on his way back for the Cleveland Browns, but the Browns have always worked best with two running backs. Kareem Hunt is on injured reserve, so that second spot is set to go to Thursday Night Football hero D’Ernest Johnson. He ran for 146 yards and a touchdown against the Denver Broncos.
What’s really hurting this argument is that the Pittsburgh Steelers have only allowed one touchdown this season to a running back. The front seven is ridiculous in Pittsburgh, and they will want to send a message to the Browns, who are trying to establish themselves in the AFC North. Johnson is a serious risk, but he might boom this week if the Browns use him in the Hunt role.
8. Michael Carter, New York Jets
The New York Jets offense is in a bad way. Zach Wilson is out for a few weeks, and they’ve resorted to trading for Joe Flacco to bridge the gap. Former practice squad quarterback Mike White will likely start this week, and Robert Saleh isn’t going to really give him a chance to win or lose (likely lose) the game. Michael Carter is going to get his best workload of the season.
Last week, Carter had nine targets. It’s clear when Mike White goes back to throw, he’s just looking to get the ball out before the defense ends him. Carter was able to catch eight balls for 67 yards. He has had trouble gaining any tractions on the ground. He’s averaging 3.5 yards per carry, but he’s had double-digit points in three straight games.
