College football hot seat: 4 coaches that could be fired after Week 9
By Ethan Lee
1. Scott Frost – Nebraska head coach
It is going to be expensive to move on from Scott Frost, but is there another head coach out there who has had a rougher season than he has? It might finally be time for the Nebraska Huskers to go ahead and collect the money required to buy Frost out of his contract.
In Week 9, Nebraska fell to 3-6 on the season after losing at home in Lincoln to the Purdue Boilermakers by a score of 28-23.
That’s not good. Nothing in that sentence is any good.
Again, it will be expensive to fire Frost if Nebraska thinks that’s the right move, but is there any real argument at this point that it’s the wrong move? The Huskers are about to miss bowl eligibility yet again and Frost’s offense still looks as rough as it did when he first arrived in Lincoln.
Unfortunately for Nebraska football fans, it’s no longer year one. It’s year four. And there’s very little tangible change.
Husker fans have high expectations and it’ll generally be difficult to meet the oddly lofty standards Nebraska fans set. But the chance at having four straight losing seasons as a head coach? That’s generally not any good for any team.
Now, the biggest argument against firing Frost right now is trying to find a suitable replacement. Who could the Huskers get in Lincoln that would be an immediate improvement? Who would be interested in the gig? How much will Nebraska be overpaying for a new head coach? The whole situation is tricky, but something has to give here.
