2021 NFL power rankings, Week 9: Cardinals fall for first time
The leaders in the NFC West hosted the NFC North-leading Packers. Arizona was a perfect 7-0 on the season while Green Bay had won six straight entering the Thursday night clash. The Cardinals had the football for just 22:25 and allowed the Pack to run for 151 yards.
And after giving up the ball just six times in their first seven games, the Cards committed three turnovers – the most crucial a late fourth-quarter end zone interception by Kyler Murray.
The Rams not only sought their fourth straight win, but a victory at Houston would move the team into a first-place tie with Arizona. Sean McVay’s team owned a 24-0 halftime lead and outgained their hosts, 286-92, in total yards in the first two quarters.
That lead would stretch to 38 points entering the fourth quarter before the Texans made the final score somewhat respectable. Rejuvenated Matthew Stafford threw for 305 yards and three scores.

The NFC North leaders were on a short week and on the road at Arizona. The Packers were down wide receivers Davante Adams and Allen Lazard. But Green Bay’s ground attack and opportunistic defense took center stage in handing the Cardinals their first loss of 2021.
A.J. Dillon (78) and Aaron Jones (59) combined for 137 of the team’s 151 rushing yards. And cornerback Rasul Douglas picked off Kyler Murray in the end zone late to preserve the win.
