5 breakout fantasy football stars to pick up for Week 9
4. Top fantasy football pickups for Week 9 – New York Jets WR Jamison Crowder
One of the biggest stunners in Week 8 was the New York Jets’ offensive explosion in an upset of the 5-2 Cincinnati Bengals at MetLife Stadium. While Mike White will get all the headlines, and we’ll get to him later, one notable development was the emergence of Jamison Crowder as a preferred target in the passing game.
Corey Davis was out for this game, opening up more looks for Crowder, who was targeted nine times and caught eight of them for 84 yards, easily his best performance of the season. Crowder also picked up a two-point conversion through the air when he tossed a Philly Special pass to White, adding a nice bonus to a solid fantasy day.
The Jets are on the road this week for a Thursday night game against the Indianapolis Colts, who have had issues with pass coverage all season long. The Colts have surrendered the seventh-most fantasy points to wideouts entering Week 8, a number that could rise given the general sloppiness of Thursday games.
Crowder is rostered in only 19 percent of Yahoo leagues and should be a priority pickup in a matchup where there could be plenty of points scored. The short week could also keep Davis out of action again, opening up more looks for Crowder to convert into catches as a solid PPR flex play.
