5 winners of the NFL Trade Deadline: Chiefs, Rams walk away happy
2. Arizona Cardinals
Aside from losing to the short-handed Packers in Week 8 on Thursday Night Football, the Arizona Cardinals have looked the part of this year’s breakout team and a club that has the potential to make a run deep into the playoffs this year.
Subsequently, it was a terrific move by the Cards to find a useful veteran commodity such as tight end Zach Ertz on the trade block and make a move for him. Even better, Arizona only had to part with a little-used cornerback, Tay Gowan, and a fifth-round pick to make the trade happen.
We’ve already gotten a look at Ertz in the Cardinals offense, which certainly helps the case that the team is a winner coming out of the NFL Trade Deadline hullabaloo. Sure, he’s not putting up Travis Kelce-type numbers but he’s been a positive that opens up the passing game for everyone in the offense, making life easier for Kyler Murray.
For as good as the Cardinals were prior to adding Ertz, they can be even better moving forward with him. Looking at the expectations that should rightfully be there for Arizona this season, though, they were wise to get aggressive and make a move such as this.
