5 winners of the NFL Trade Deadline: Chiefs, Rams walk away happy
1. Los Angeles Rams
Leading up to the NFL Trade Deadline, one of the biggest questions was which contenders would swing for the fences and try to deliver the coup de grace to put them over the top. Without question — as they’ve done many times before — the Los Angeles Rams assumed that role in a massive way.
On Monday before the deadline, the Rams were able to acquire veteran pass-rusher Von Miller. In return, Los Angeles sent Denver a 2022 second and third-round pick to get the deal done, a hefty price for an impending free agent.
Some people are going to talk about LA giving up too much to get the deal done but, frankly, the Rams should be judged by different standards when it comes to trades. They clearly value immediate impact and star players more than draft capital. So if the move is there to be made, they don’t concern themselves with the cost.
Now, a team with just one loss on the season that seems to be getting better each week with Matthew Stafford in the Sean McVay offense now has put Miller, who is still a highly effective edge defender, up front with Aaron Donald and Leonard Floyd. This is a huge push for the Rams to truly realize their Super Bowl expectations, which obviously makes them a big winner.
