Braves can’t afford Jorge Soler this offseason

Soler made himself a ton of money this World Series, winning the MVP of the series and hitting three home runs in the process, including a memorable shot to stun Minute Maid Park in Game 6.

The 29-year-old was used primarily as a designated hitter when possible in the World Series, and with the DH potentially coming to the NL full-time, Soler is an intriguing addition to the Braves lineup. However, Atlanta fans must factor in that Ronald Acuña and Marcell Ozuna are returning from injuries/unexcused absences next season. There won’t be much room for all of these outfielders Anthopoulos acquired. Something has to give.

Someone is going to pay Soler big money based on his Game 6 home run alone, but his overall numbers the last few years in Atlanta and Kansas City warrant a large contract. With the Braves paying Freeman, and potentially spending big on pitching as well, there won’t be much room for Soler.
