3. Golden Tate

Surprisingly, Golden Tate is still a free agent. The 32-year-old had spent the last two years with the New York Giants before departing in the offseason. His time with the Giants was filled with controversy, including a ban for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. But when he was on the field, Tate remained a productive player.

He accrued 84 catches for 1,064 yards and eight touchdowns in the Meadowlands and caught just over 61 percent of his targets. Once one of the finest slot receivers of his generation, Tate could still provide a spark at receiver for the Saints if given the chance. He has great ball skills, a variety of routes, and decent speed at his disposal. What matters the most is he knows how to get open.

Tate can still play outside the numbers too. Sure, he won’t get downfield with lightning speed, but his escapability can still give him an advantage against less agile cornerbacks. The Saints could use that sort of experience and versatility on the roster.
