Running Backs

Austin Ekeler, Los Angeles Chargers at Philadelphia Eagles-$9,000

I’m ponying up for Ekeler, who has the third-most targets among running backs (42) despite getting zero in Week 1 and having a bye. He has also scored eight total touchdowns, with more than what his workload had been the last couple of seasons in terms of carries inside the 5-yard line.

In Week 9 he gets the Philadelphia Eagles, who even after a decent overall showing against the Detroit Lions in Week 8 are still allowing the third-most fantasy points to running backs (0.5-point PPR).

Red zone work and heaving passing game usage add up to fantasy goodness. Ekeler is a worthy FanDuel investment this week.

Aaron Jones, Green Bay Packers at Kansas City Chiefs-$8,500

With the aforementioned news that Rodgers is out, Jones is in line for all the work he can handle in Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs. A repeat of Week 8’s heavy passing game usage (11 targets) is not likely with wide receivers Davante Adams and Allen Lazard likely back off the COVID list (as of this writing Adams has not been activated though). But Jordan Love will not be airing it out in an ideal game script for Green Bay.

The Chiefs are in the bottom half of the league in fantasy points allowed to running backs, driven partially by passing game production, and they have the league’s 22nd-ranked run defense.

Bet on Jones getting 20-plus touches on Sunday, and I’ll bet on a touchdown with the requisite yardage. Having two high-salary running backs might cause trouble from here.
