New England Patriots

Even without Tom Brady, the New England Patriots always find themselves closely linked to Beckham. The Patriots are currently sitting at 4-4, well in the playoff race and finding their feet nicely with first-round rookie, Mac Jones, under center. Even if they miss out on the postseason, things are looking up in Foxborough.

The expanded season and new playoff format might be enough for Bill Belichick to convince himself that the Patriots could sneak into the playoffs, though, especially as a nine or ten-win team. Considering some of the shocks we’ve seen so far, that’s not far out of reach. The Patriots are talented, but only rank 20th in EPA and Mac Jones average depth of target is just 7.9 yards, per Pro Football Reference. Not awful, but not great.

A midseason addition like Beckham isn’t something the Patriots would shy away from. Belichick has shown that he’s capable of managing big personalities, and at this point, Beckham might need someone to settle him down just a tad. He’d also immediately become Jones’ top target.

This is a situation where everyone wins. The Patriots get a number one receiver to help them make a push for the playoffs, and Beckham has the opportunity to play under the best head coach of all time, and prove that he can be a valuable asset for a young quarterback. It might not be a guaranteed shot at the postseason, but it could be a good long-term move.
