2. Cashman will reel in Kevin Gausman

Things behind ace Gerrit Cole are still pretty shaky in the Yankees’ rotation. That’s why New York will, once again, dip into free agency to fortify their starting pitching.

Robbie Ray will be heavily linked to the Yankees on the open market, but look for Cashman to opt for Gausman instead. He’s got a stronger track record and can be acquired without the threat of draft compensation. That small detail will drastically increase Gausman’s value to a team that values its draft picks as much as the Yankees.

More importantly, Gausman was a highly durable workhorse for the Giants last season. He made 33 starts with a sub-3.00 era for San Francisco. That kind of production would comfortably make him a co-No. 1 starter alongside Cole in the Bronx.

The Yankees might hesitate to give Gausman the long-term deal he’s going to be looking for, but eventually, Cashman will capitulate and give in to his massive demands. New York has been interested in acquiring Gausman for several years and they will finally get their man in free agency this offseason.
