College football winners and losers from Week 10: Oklahoma scores big while idle, Alabama & Ohio State raise questions
College football Week 10 loser: Cincinnati’s hopes of a CFB Playoff spot
If there was anything that we learned about the Cincinnati Bearcats in the first College Football Playoff, it’s that just winning isn’t good enough. They’ve been winning as one of six undefeated teams entering Week 10 and they were still No. 6 in the initial rankings. Thus, they needed style points.
Luke Fickell’s team earned exactly none of those as they did everything in their power to let Tulsa hand them their first loss of the season. They won again but, if they were trying to make a case to jump ahead of Ohio State or anyone else, the Bearcats leave this week with the mission unaccomplished.
College football Week 10 winner: Texas A&M now and in the future
Just in terms of the action in a game, Texas A&M made a statement with a convincing win over Auburn as the Aggies defense was dominant. They made Bo Nix look like the pedestrian playmaker we’ve come to know over the years and Zach Calzada was an absolute warrior to lead Jimbo Fisher’s team to a crucial SEC West win that keeps them loosely alive for the conference championship game.
Not only that, though, Jimbo also landed the biggest fish in the recruiting pond earlier in the day, earning a commitment from the No. 2 recruit in the country, Walter Nolen. Texas A&M already is on the rise to becoming a bonafide threat to compete for College Football Playoff spots — though likely not this year — but the recruiting trail is solidifying that’s not going to stop.
College football Week 10 winner: The CFB wildlife sanctuary
On Friday night, we got a moose on the loose running through the South Dakota State football stadium:
Then, on Saturday night with a little Pac-12 After Dark action, a fox stopped the Arizona State-USC game for a few minutes as it ran onto the field, into the stands, then back onto the field:
It’s good to see college football really embracing the wildlife and allowing them to roam freely through stadiums. This season has been so good, it’s only right that we let other species get in on the enjoyment of it.
