3. Big 12

Oklahoma had the week off, and it only helped as the Spartans lost their spot in the College Football Playoff. Oklahoma was surprisingly ranked eighth in the rankings despite being undefeated and leading a Power Five conference. They will likely move up slightly, but Ohio State, Michigan, and Cincinnati all won and were already ahead of the Sooners. Outside of the Sooners quiet week, Oklahoma State made a statement in Morgantown, beating up WVU on both sides of the ball. Baylor lost again, likely knocking them out of the rankings for good. Texas took an embarrassing loss to Iowa State, who bounced back from their loss to WVU beautifully. The Big 12 is healthy as a conference for now, but Oklahoma needs to find a way into this College Football Playoff in order to stave off the Pac-12.

2. Big Ten

The Big Ten stays second after a huge loss from Michigan State. Losing to Purdue really hurts their standing, but it’s weird to see if they fall past Michigan, who they actually beat. The Spartan’s loss really puts the rankings in flux. Speaking of Michigan, the Wolverines bounced back with a big win against Indiana. Ohio State took care of Nebraska, and they will likely take Michigan State’s spot in the College Football Rankings. Wisconsin, Iowa, and Penn State all won on the road, showing the depth of the Big Ten is still quite impressive.

1. SEC

Alabama got a scare from LSU, but in the end, the Crimson Tide win again. A 14-point second quarter was enough to keep some distance between the Tigers and the Tide. Auburn’s role as spoiler ended with a dominating effort from Texas A&M who could be in the playoff committee’s top 10. Arkansas and Tennessee showed they were worth some of their hype with wins over Mississippi State and Kentucky, respectively. There aren’t too many dominant teams in this division, but the ones that are will play for a national championship opportunity.
