Cubs: Anthony Rizzo reunion makes sense

From his first start in the Cubbie blue pinstripes to his final Wrigley Field home run in July, Anthony Rizzo was the heart and soul of the Chicago Cubs. He became the unofficial captain of the team after he basically tried to fight the entire Reds dugout in 2014, a 100-loss season.

Rizzo also represents one-half of the most memorable moment in Chicago Cubs history – the final putout of the 2016 World Series, ending a drought that spanned 108 years. It is unclear what the market looks like for Rizzo right now, however. He has reported interest in returning to the Yankees, but they already have a big contact sitting at first base with DJ LeMahieu.

Rizzo still has plenty left in the tank — three or four years at least. If he and the Cubs were to agree to a return to Chicago to finish his career, first base would certainly be his, and maybe for a hometown discount. New fan favorites Frank Schwindel and Patrick Wisdom would certainly make room for the former captain to take his corner back.
